Are you in a job meaningful for you? Are you passionate about what you are doing? Have you settled for less? Or perhaps you are in denial?

How to find a meaningful job in 5 steps:

Step 1: Explore.

You need to know what you love. In order to achieve this, you need to shop around and try career outfits. How do you feel in an administrator role? A financial analyst job?  A business development job?  The more outfits, the more chances to find one that will suit you.

Don’t be afraid to ask for different responsibilities. Don’t be afraid to change employer. The more time you spend exploring, the more you will know what you love and find it!

You will know the type of environment you feel most comfortable in. You will know the kind of people you enjoy working with. You will look at yourself in the mirror and say: “I look and feel amazing!”

You will want to go to work every day because you love your job.

Step 2: Focus on your values.

It’s a matter of fit.  You would not wear an outfit that doesn’t fit you. Would you? You would not mingle with people you don’t feel comfortable with. Would you? You would not agree on things that doesn’t represent your values. Would you?

Being in a job meaningful for you is being in an organization aligned with your values. It’s not jeopardizing who you are. It’s giving you permission to honor your values and be in an environment where you can communicate, work and grow according to your beliefs.

You will want to go to work every day because you and your organization focus on similar values.

Step 3: Overcome your fears.

Remember those fears you had and managed to overcome? What did you do? How did you feel? What have you learned about yourself that can be applied to your job?

Set personal goals. Take small steps. Reward yourself each time you accomplish a step. Share your fears with someone you trust. You will make yourself more accountable. Don’t be afraid!

You will want to work every day because you are preventing your fears to be in the way of your success.

Step 4: Be realistic.

You need to pay your bills. While you are exploring for a job meaningful for you, be patient with yourself. Make the best out of the job you are in. However, don’t become complaicent and settle for less!

Develop a plan to action. Set deadlines. Continue shopping until you find the right outfit.

You will want to go to work every day knowing you are actively looking for the job more meaningful for you.

Step 5: Be strategic.

A career is a journey. Think every step through and don’t skim on any of them. You want your outfit to last. You want to go to work every day because you know this job is meaningful for you.

Because you know you can dance!
